Most Authentic Hadith on the Benefits of Cupping

Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrates: The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Healing is in three things: in the incision of the cupper, a drink of honey, and cauterization — but I forbid my Ummah from cauterization.” (Sahih al‑Bukhari 5681)

Benefit: Cupping is explicitly named as one of the three primary healing methods endorsed by the Prophet ﷺ.

“The best treatment you have is cupping.”

Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrates: The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Indeed, the best of remedies you have is cupping.” (Sahih Muslim 1577)

Benefit: This is one of the strongest endorsements — calling it the best of available treatments.

“There is healing in cupping.”

Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) narrates: The Prophet ﷺ said:

“If there is any good in your medical treatments, it is in the incision of the cupper…” (Sahih Muslim 2205)

Benefit: The Prophet ﷺ affirms real therapeutic value in cupping.

Angels recommended cupping to the Prophet ﷺ

Ibn Mas‘ud (رضي الله عنه) narrates: During the Night Journey (Isra’), the Prophet ﷺ said:

“I did not pass by any group of angels except they said: ‘O Muhammad, order your Ummah to do cupping.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3477 — graded Sahih by al‑Albani)

Benefit: This elevates cupping from a medical practice to a heavenly recommendation.

The Prophet ﷺ used cupping for headaches and pain

Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) narrates:

“The Prophet ﷺ was cupped on his head while he was in ihram due to a headache.” (Sahih al‑Bukhari 5701)

Benefit: Cupping is effective for headaches, migraines, and tension.

The Prophet ﷺ used cupping for poison and illness

Salma (the servant of the Prophet ﷺ) narrates:

“Whenever the Prophet ﷺ suffered from a pain in his body, he would have cupping done.” (Sahih Ibn Hibban 1313 — authentic)

And in another narration, he was cupped after being affected by poison.

Benefit: Cupping was his go‑to treatment for general pain and toxicity.

Cupping strengthens the body

Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrates:

“The Prophet ﷺ used cupping on the two sides of his neck and between his shoulders.” (Sahih al‑Bukhari)

Scholars explain these are areas that increase vitality, improve blood flow, and relieve stress and fatigue.
